Zadie Ellen (VanMeter) Helmick

Zadie Ellen Helmick, 94, of Maurertown, VA passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at the home of her daughter in Maurertown, VA.

Mrs. Helmick was born in Smoke Hole, WV on March 26, 1931, a daughter of the late Jacob Harrison and Zernie Alice Alt VanMeter.  She was a homemaker who loved to sew and read and was a member of the Strasburg TOPS.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Leroy Helmick, Sr.; three children Ronald VanMeter, Cathy Shrum, and Bonnie Johnson; three grandchildren; six brothers and a sister.

Survivors include her children Julie Thompson (Bobby), Linda Cook, Ralph Helmick (Kim), Caroline Shipp (Wayne), and Buddy Helmick (Tracy); 19 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; a sister Judy Helmick along with numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of cousins. 

A celebration of life service for Mrs. Helmick will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2025, at Stover Funeral Home with Pastor Shannon Earle officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork St., Winchester, VA 22601.
