William Reid Morgan

William Reid Morgan, 74, of Basye VA, passed away, Tuesday, May 19, 2020, in Winchester Hospital after a brief illness. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mr. Morgan at St. John Bosco Catholic Church, Woodstock Virginia on June 5, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. Guests attending the Mass will follow the Arlington diocese procedures while maintaining social distances and the wearing of facial masks.  Those who are unable to attend the mass at St. John Bosco Catholic Church, may view the mass online at:  https://boxcast.tv/view/william-r-morgan-funeral-kbkrmsv9jypqj4npy8vh

Mr. Morgan is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sandra Morgan; his son William Reid Morgan, Jr., wife, Lisa, and grandsons, Kramer and Hunter, all of Dallas, Texas; one aunt, five brothers, four sisters, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harris Urene Morgan Jr. and Loretta Adele Reid Morgan.

Mr. Morgan was born in Jacksonville, Florida on May 26, 1945. He received his Engineering degree from the University of Maryland, and worked as a Civil Engineer in Maryland where he designed subways in the northeast, did maintenance and construction projects in Dallas, Texas, and directed the Maintenance and Operations at Florida Atlantic University in Broward County, Florida. He managed during his long career to receive a coveted Professional Engineering license.

While in Florida, he served as President of the Tarpon River Civic Association, Vice-president of the Council of Civic Associations of Ft. Lauderdale, and served a two-year term on the Broward County Management and Efficiency Committee. Recently, he served his Basye community as a member of the Basye-Bryce Lions Club. He was a member of the Our Lady of the Shenandoah mission Catholic Church.

Mr. Morgan's favorite pastimes included sailing his 40-foot sailboat, landscaping with ponds and bamboos. He grew over 250 species of plants, trees, orchids and shrubs at his home in Florida. His Labrador Retriever was his full-time sidekick and kept him entertained at the Sybil Head-Bryce dog park. He also loved to observe and identify the many species of birds found in the Shenandoah Valley.

Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Morgan's name to St. John Bosco Catholic Church, 315 Main Street, Woodstock, Virginia 22644.
