Obituary

Walter Clinton Smith, age 93, of Toms Brook passed away Friday, November 28, 2014. A funeral service will be conducted 4:00 p.m. Thursday, December 4th at Stover Memorial Chapel with a reception following this service at Wayside Inn, Middletown. Burial with full military honors will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. Mr. Smith was born October 12, 1921 in Silo, Oklahoma, the son of the late Finale Clinton and Edith Whitney Smith. He retired from the United States Air Force at the rank of Master Sargent with 20 years of service. He also was the retired owner of Walt Smith Builders, Inc. for more than 40 years, was a member of Strasburg Moose Lodge No. 403, American Legion Post 199, Woodstock and enjoyed listening to Bluegrass music. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Jacquelyn Ruth Briel Smith, on February 11, 2009. Surviving are his daughters, Rebecca Reeves and husband, Len of Toms Brook and Janna Smith-Dingus and husband, Steven of Mt. Jackson; his son, Brian Clinton Smith of White Post; his nephew, Jerry Roberts of Mt. Jackson; a sister, Mildred Corder of Carlsbad, New Mexico; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Floyd Huntington, Gen. Richard Anson, Jack Grubbs and Larry Brown. The family will receive friends at Stover Funeral Home, 177 N. Holliday St., Strasburg on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
