Thomas Leath Coates, II

Thomas Leath Coates II, 80, of Toms Brook, VA passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at his home with his family by his side.

A celebration of life for Tom will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at Liberty Baptist Church with Pastor Keith Warren officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Tom was born in Winchester, VA on November 8, 1942, the son of the late Thomas L. Coates and Gladys A. Coates of Strasburg. He was a 1961 graduate of Strasburg High School. On February 14, 1965, he married Rebecca Ann Atkins. He worked at Falls Church Construction then Ozark Concrete. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed time spent with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Harold Coates, and two sisters, Dorothy Showman and Frances Fahnestock.

He is survived by his wife, Becky, and his children, Thomas 'Tommy' Coates III and wife Lori of Strasburg, Shelly Wells of Manassas and Laura Lantz (Richard Wright) of Woodstock; his grandchildren, Jenna Good (Sean) of Toms Brook, Emily Laughlin (Hoyle III) of Woodstock, James 'Jimmy' Ruckman (Skylare) of Lockport, IL, Thomas Coates IV (Alyssa) of Toms Brook, Kaitlyn 'Katie' Lantz (Levi) of Quicksburg, Lauren 'Nikki' Hill (Dillon) of Strasburg, and Hannah Lantz of Woodstock; his great grandsons, Mason Good, Hoyle 'Selwyn' Laughlin IV, and Creed Good along with many nieces and nephews.
