Thelma Magdalene (Jackson) Williams

September 4, 1932 ~ May 3, 2019 (age 86)

A life we loved came to an end on Friday, May 3, 2019 when the Lord dispatched an angel for Thelma M. “Sisbabe” Williams. Thelma was born on September 4, 1932, to the late William & Edna Willis Jackson in Strasburg, Virginia.

A Celebration of Life for Thelma M. Williams will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2019 at the Stover Memorial Chapel.  She will be laid to rest at the Good Hope Cemetery, Front Royal, VA.  The family will receive friends at Stover Funeral Home on Saturday from 9:00 am until the time of the service.

Thelma accepted Christ in her life at an early age and attended Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Strasburg.  She was one of nine children.  She attended Douglas High School in Winchester VA.

Thelma married her childhood sweetheart, the late Donald ‘Freddie” Williams on December 17, 1948, and relocated to Fairmount Heights, Maryland. From this blessed union four children were born; Wesley L., Larry P., Jerome A., and Donna C. Thelma and Donald were married for 58 years and enjoyed¬¬¬¬ family fellowship.  During their union, Thelma and Donald opened their home to many family and friends. They supported and cared for their entire family and were a valuable resource and asset to their siblings, nieces and nephews.  Thelma loved to cook for family and was a caregiver to anyone who crossed her path. She was considered the village mother. She was the family disciplinarian and was known for keeping the children in line with her stern yet loving instruction.

She worked for Hahn’s Shoes for over 20 years, and then retired to spend time with her husband, children and grandchildren.

Thelma affectionately known as “Sisbabe” by her family and friends was an active member of Super Special Social Club and spent over 15 years participating in club sponsored events.  She enjoyed great music, Saturday night celebrations and dancing.  Through her social club, where she managed the club’s business affairs, Thelma touched many lives and made many close friends.  She was well-known as “Ms. Thelma” in the Glenarden, Maryland community.

Thelma was known for her sense of style and immaculately kept hair.  This matched perfectly with her sassy yet polished personality. She was fancy! Her grandchildren were her joy; she had a special relationship with each of them individually. She provided them with powerful life lessons and words to live by. She instilled in them wisdom and a life time of special “Grandma Memories’.

Thelma was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, mother-in-law and friend.  She was dedicated to her family and spent her free time enjoying family vacations and celebrations, attending community softball games, picnics, watching her favorite day time soap opera The Young and the Restless and trips to the casino.

Thelma leaves to cherish her memory: one sister Elizabeth Alsberry of Strasburg, Va.; three sons Wesley Williams (Elizabeth) of Upper Marlboro, MD; Larry Williams of Severn, MD; Jerome Williams (Janet) of Manassas, VA;  and one daughter Donna Williams of Waldorf, MD;  seven grandchildren: Sheri, Gerald, Carlton (J.R.), Shawn Sr., Brandon, Danielle, Aaron, and Lacy; four great-grandchildren; Zachary, Wesley, Shawn Jr, and Shye; one grand-daughter-in-law Tammy Williams and a host of other family and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by seven siblings: Kathleen Harris, Geraldine Jackson, Alease Thompson, Charles, Robert, Frederick and Kenneth Jackson and two grandsons: Kevin and Ramone.
