Thelma McGrady Gardner age 100, a resident of Strasburg, VA passed away Saturday, November 08, 2014 at her residence. A funeral Service for Mrs. Gardner will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Stover Memorial Chapel with Rev Kitty Hahn officiating. Mrs. Gardner will be laid to rest on Friday, November 14, 2014 in the James Gardner Cemetery, Carroll County, VA. She was born in Coalwood, West Virginia on January 9, 1914 a daughter of the late John Walter and Mattie Lou Dickerson McGrady. She was kind, loving, and non-judgmental lady, a talented artist, gardener who loved to quilt, crochet, and fish. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Eugene Gardner, and siblings, Opal Liddle, Arnold McGrady, Lloyd McGrady, and Vera Curto. Survivors include her children, John Allen Gardner of Lebanon Church, VA and Rebecca Gardner Lucas and husband, Robert L. Jr. of Strasburg, VA; grandchildren, Marshall Gardner and wife, Kristen, Jeremiah A. Lucas of Strasburg, and Brian E. Gardner of Lebanon Church; great-grandchildren, Megan, Jesse, and Allen Gardner, Dagan Lucas Riffey; numerous nieces and nephews. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Stover Funeral Home on Tuesday from 1:00 - 2:00 P.M. prior to the service. The family would like to express their appreciation to the excellent doctors and staff of the Warren Memorial Hospital, Lynn Care of Front Royal, and the invaluable services of Blue Ridge Hospice staff. The family also wants to extend their sincere gratitude to Felicia Santoya and Crystal Riffey, grandmother and mother of Dagan, for their professional and compassionate assistance and guidance to Becky with Thelma's care during her last week of life.
