Shirley Tolbert Obituary

Shirley Jenkins Tolbert, age 82, a resident of Strasburg, VA passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at the home of her daughter in Stephens City, VA.

A funeral service for Shirley will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Stover Memorial Chapel with Pastor Doug Lowell officiating. Shirley will be laid to rest in the Riverview Cemetery in Strasburg, VA, by her late husband Jackie Dean “Jack” Tolbert.

Shirley was born in Shenandoah County, VA on October 6, 1938 a daughter of the late Walter “Mart” and Reba Ardesta Rhodes Jenkins. She was a faithful member of God’s Place Church in Middletown, VA. Shirley impacted many lives in her community. She was a woman who strived to make a difference in the lives of those around her. Shirley became a mother to many along her life’s journey, always giving of herself to see that others felt special. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son Travis Dean Miller and siblings Ida Mae Hepner, Walter Jenkins, Rebecca Ritenour, Edith Miller and Larry Jenkins.

Survivors include her beloved children Sheila Brown (Ronnie) of Strasburg, VA, Donna Lowell (Doug) of Stephens City, VA, Matthew Tolbert of Strasburg, VA, Tasha Penley (Jason) of Strasburg, VA and Jailyn Tolbert of Front Royal, VA; her grandchildren, Josh, Melissa, Katie Bug, Sara Beth, Samuel, Micah, Brenna, Khloe, Lennox, Jackie Ray, and Jace; her great-grandchildren, Maddie, Macy, Malachi, and Aaden; her siblings, June Fay Plaugher and Douglas Jenkins, Sr. along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Shirley will be deeply missed by her family and a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be Jason Penley, Jailyn Tolbert, Ronnie Brown, Michael Presley, Doug Clem, and Chad Miller.

The family will receive friends at Stover Funeral Home on Saturday one hour prior to the service.
