Shirley Irene Pangle 85 of Strasburg, VA, passed away Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Dutch Haven Assisted Living, Maurertown, VA.

A funeral service for Shirley will be conducted at 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Stover Memorial Chapel with Rev. Kathleen Haynes officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery.

Shirley was born in Shenandoah County, VA on August 26, 1933, the daughter of the late William Roosevelt and Mary Vernon Edmonson Pangle. She graduated from Strasburg High School in 1951. She was employed in various jobs through the years including the Virginia Apple and Peach Inspection Agency in Winchester, Crown Cork and Seal in Winchester, Milestone Restaurant in Toms Brook and Denny's in Strasburg. She owned Country Corner Crafts in Strasburg in the 1980's and continued to make crafts at home after her retirement. She was Longaberger consultant and collector for many years and enjoyed many trips with friends to Dresden, Ohio where the baskets were made.

Shirley was raised in the Strasburg United Methodist Church where she was active in youth groups and choir. She eventually moved to Mt. Olive Methodist Church where she served as a choir director and participated in numerous church activities. Shirley was a former Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star and former member of the Strasburg Women of the Moose.

Shirley was married for 62 years to Owen Lee Pangle, who preceded her in death in 2017.

Survivors include her children, Sheryl Pifer and husband Larry, Cindy Avvenire and husband Gerard all of Strasburg, VA; her grandchildren, Owen Pifer of Norfolk, Aaron Pifer of Winchester, VA, Kayla Racey of Columbus, OH and Steven Racey of Chicago, IL; three step-grandchildren; her great-grandchildren, Hunter, Miles, Jasmine, Naomi and Ellie.

Pallbearers will be Paul Racey, Leroy Donald, William "Bill" Weeks, Vaughn Orndorff, Gary Walker, and Donnie Wymer.

The family will receive friends at Stover Funeral Home on Saturday one hour prior to the service.
