Shirley Ann Laidler Lemmermann, 71, of Strasburg, VA gained her wings on Monday, October 9, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer.

A graveside service for Mrs. Lemmermann will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 14, 2023, at St. Stephen Cemetery with Rev. Keith Warren officiating.

Shirley was born in Salem, New Jersey on January 14, 1952, a daughter of the late Alfred Horace and Mildred Mae Britton Laidler. She was the wife of the late Robert Bruce “Bob” Lemmermann whom she married on January 17, 1970. Shirley retired from Shenandoah County Public Schools where she worked as a special need’s driver and previously a cafeteria aide at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a stepdaughter Jackie Messick; a step grandson David Messick; a brother Doug Laidler and her second mom Jean Madden.

Survivors include her son Paul Lemmermann of Ephrata, PA; her daughter Sherri Walker (Steve) of Strasburg, VA; a stepson Bobby Lemmermann of New Jersey; her grandchildren Emily Wallis (Timmy) of Martinsburg, WV, Aaron Walker and Jessica Walker both of Strasburg, VA; her step-grandchildren Joey, Krystle, Jamie, and Amanda Messick all of New Jersey; her great grandchildren Henry and Owen Wallis; five step great grandsons; six step great granddaughters; one sister Cindy Laidler; one brother Bobby Laidler; a special niece Alesha Rodriguez (Raul) of Winchester, VA along with several nieces and nephews.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork St., Winchester, VA 22601 or Strasburg Vol. Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 620, Strasburg, VA 22657.
