Rufus C. Cook SFC Rufus C. Cook of New Tazewell, TN passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at his home. He was born June 18, 1961 the son of the late Ronald Gene and Lila Jean Speaks Cook. In addition to his parents he is preceded by his brother, Ronald Lee Cook; sister, Lila Marie Cox; sons-in-law, Lee Graves and Adrian Witherspoon and nephew, Jeremy Cook. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Verdie Cook; 4 Daughters: Michelle Graves, Angie Newman, Jackie (Joe David) Massengill and Melissa Witherspoon all of New Tazewell, TN; Brothers: Robbie (Cheryl) Cook of Strasburg, VA, Allen (Mary) Cook of Shelbyville, TN, Randy (Cindy) Cook of Strasburg, VA, Doug Cook of Strasburg, VA, Dickie (Diane) Cook of Winchester, VA and special brother-in-law, Gene McMurray of New Tazewell, TN; Sister: Kathy (Ronnie) Stickley of Strasburg, VA; Grandchildren: Jennifer (Derek) Smith, Joshua (Tabitha) Graves, Amanda Pelayo, Samantha Bolstridge, Dakota Massengill, Chelsea Witherspoon, PVT AJ Witherspoon II, Jared Massengill and Isaiah Cameron; Great Grandchildren: Jayla Bolstridge, Chloe Smith, Alijah James, Jamari Warren, Levi Ramsey and Kaylani Martin; his special companion, his poodle, Moo-Moo, And a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00p.m. Saturday, June 20 at the Creech Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Cosby, Joe David Massengill and Dakota Massengill presiding. Music will be provided by the Lone Holly Church. Interment will follow at the Mountain View Cemetery in Harrogate, TN. Pallbearers will be: Dakota Massengill, Jared Massengill, PVT AJ Witherspoon II, Isaiah Cameron, Joshua Graves, Derek Smith, Aaron Middleton and Asa Ramsey III. Honorary pallbearers will be: Wayne Epperson, Brian Daniel, Amedisys Hospice Oncology Johnson City, VA and Dr. Louis Modica. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00p.m. Friday, June 19, 2015 at the Creech Funeral Home.
