Rosemarie "Ruth" Sophie Schmich Ashcraft
Ruth Ashcraft, 87, of Strasburg, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at her home in Strasburg, VA, after a long battle with Dementia.
A memorial service for Ruth will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 11, 2017, at the Strasburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Bill Wade officiating. Ruth will be laid to rest privately in Riverview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
She was born in Philadelphia, PA on May 3, 1930, a daughter of the late Ronald and Emma Schmich. She was raised in New Jersey and graduated from Woodbury High School where she met her husband of 60 years, the late Charles Edgar Ashcraft, Sr. She retired from Signal Knob Middle School where she worked with her close friend Barbara Halvorson in the library. Ruth was an active member of Strasburg United Methodist Church and loved the simple things in life. She enjoyed spending time tending to her plants, studying nature, reading, and taking trips to the beach. She loved being with her family, her friends, and was kind to everyone she knew. If you knew Ruth Ashcraft, you knew someone very special.
Ruth is survived by one sister, Marion Marshall (Earl Griffin), of Almonesson, New Jersey; her children, Chuck Ashcraft (Brenda) of Salem, VA, Ron Ashcraft (Mary), Karen Ashcraft Tignor (David Smallwood), and Sharon Pritchett, all of Strasburg, VA; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Van Pritchett, and her caregiver, Bonnie Weatherholtz.
