Robert "Bob" Spiker, Sr. Obituary

Robert Lee “Bob” Spiker, Sr. of Toms Brook, VA passed away in the early morning hours on Thursday, January 12, 2023, on Memory Lane at Skyline Terrace surrounded by the love of his family.

A Graveside Service for Bob will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at Sunset View Memorial Gardens in Woodstock, VA with Rev. Joe Fleming officiating.  Military honors will be presented by the Shenandoah American Legion Post 77 Strasburg, VA.

Bob was born the son of the late Sidney Albert and Flossie Borden Spiker on November 16, 1934, on their family farm in Maurertown, VA. He was born the youngest of 7 children who also preceded him in death - Virginia Hottel (Dan), Lucille Dodson (Jay), Charlotte Stepp (Walter), James Spiker (Shirley), Ruth Hollar (Doug), Fleda Morganthaler, along with another child who was raised by the family Bryce Richards.

Bob was a graduate of Toms Brook High School class of 1953. Following graduation Bob was enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1954-1956 prior to attending Shepherd University a few years. On January 9, 1960, Bob wed the love of his life, Dorothy Pangle Spiker in Hagerstown, MD. Together they were blessed with their son, Robert (Bobby/Bink) Lee Spiker Jr of Maurertown and daughter, Melissa Ann Spiker-Neal and husband Tony of Toms Brook. While busy not only raising a family, he also spent his days hard at work on the farm with his cattle. If driving by you could find him hard at work digging thistles or mending fences and if you were truly fortunate enough, you could hear him calling in the cows. If not farming or using his hands of labor doing carpentry work for CC&R Construction, you can bet he was high in the mountain hunting and trapping wildlife down by the river fishing. Bob played baseball for Oak Grove, Star Tannery and the Woodstock Raiders. Though Bob loved the beauty of the Shenandoah Valley he enjoyed his travels alongside his wife out of state and trips to Dolly Sod for annual Huckleberry picking. He also enjoyed duckpin bowling for the MBO Ruritans and pitching horseshoes in the warm evenings. He was a member of the American Legion and St. Matthews Lutheran Church of Toms Brook.

Bobs patriarchy continues down 3 generations with 9 grandchildren and 13 Great-Grandchildren. Grandsons include Cory Spiker and wife Jessica, Matt Spiker and wife Ashley, and Jordan (Jo-Dog) Spiker. Granddaughters, Nikki Liptrap and husband Caleb, Casey Marston, Jamie Spiker and husband Danny, Taylor Neal and fiancé Tommy Baker, Sydney Neal and Allyson (Squirrel) Neal. Bobs “sweetest” treasures were his great grandchildren, Gabby, Amelia and Ezra Spiker, Claire and Levi Spiker, Lane and Cody Liptrap, Cole, Charlotte and Waverly Baker, Alivia Marston and Raegan and Brooks Jones whom he loved to spoil with special treats at each visit. Special recognition goes to his hunting buddies and friends of years past. And a big shoutout to his loving pup and companion Buddy.

Memorial Contributions may be made in Bobs name to St Matthews Lutheran Church c/o Frank Conner, 1562 Mt. Olive Rd, Toms Brook, VA 22660.
