Mr. Jordan was born in Bailey, North Carolina on November 17,1935 a son of the late Dovis Dolphus and Daisy Flora Jordan. Mr. Jordan grew up in a share-cropping family in the height of the great depression where the family’s primary crop was tobacco. He and his brothers worked the fields from a young age in order for the family to survive. From this experience, he continued to have a small garden and grow crops that he would share with family, friends and coworkers.
Mr. Jordan was a member of Waterbrook Brethren Church and a retired painter. Mr. Jordan retired after suffering a stroke at the age of 75. He was the head painter at Columbia Plaza in Washington, D.C. at the time and would have continued working if it weren’t for his health. He always stated that a “good paint job” would quickly and more cheaply improve the look of any home.
Mr. Jordan loved to hunt and fish, farm his property and pull pranks on his family and friends. In retirement, he was an avid reader and enjoyed watching westerns on television. He was a fan of the The Washington Football Team and The Washington Senators/Nationals. He was over the moon when the Nationals won the World Series in 2019; something he thought he would never see in his lifetime.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years Diane Williams Jordan of Toms Brook, VA; his children Shelby Jordan-Kline (Greg Coons) of Toms Brook VA and Kim Jordan of Norfolk, VA; one grandson, Corey Wills of Toms Brook, VA; his siblings Jesse Jordan of Arlington TX and Dorothy Engle of Plattsmouth, NE along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Greg Coons, Marc Williams, Todd Wills, Trenton Davis, Ralph Sine and Bill Wetzel. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Breakfast Club from the Woodstock McDonald’s.
