Raymond L. "Billy" Beeler age 75, a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and a resident of Strasburg in the Oranda community passed away Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester. A funeral service for Mr. Beeler will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Strasburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Lebanon Church Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Shenandoah American Legion Post 77 Strasburg. He was born on November 24, 1936 a son of the late Raymond L. & Ruth E. Pangle Beeler. He was retired from and a member of the Operating Engineers Local 77. He was a member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church where he was a past President of the United Methodist Men and taught Sunday School for the 5-8th grade class. Mr. Beeler was a U.S. Marine veteran having served on the USS Boston from 1957 -1960 and attended many annual USS Boston ship reunions over the years. He was a member of the Shenandoah American Legion Post 77 Strasburg, Edinburg V.F.W. Post 2447, Strasburg Moose Lodge 403, North Shenandoah Ruritan Club and lead the Marine Corp local area "Toys for Tots" program. He also served as a Major with the Virginia Defense Force. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Terry Beeler Estep. Survivors include his wife Nancy Hockman Beeler; daughters Dora Beeler Buck and husband, Stephen, Melissa Beeler Crider and husband, Daniel; son in law, Philip Estep; grandchildren, Abby Walters, Grace Buck, Lindsey Thorpe, Luke Estep, Kyle Warner and Kalyn Warner; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Larry Beeler and wife Linda. Pall bearers will be Robert Gnegy, Gary Pangle, Johnny Pangle, Stuart Smith, William C. "Charlie" Beeler, Jerry Hamman, Dale Pangle, and Larry Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Strasburg High School Class of 1956. The family will receive friends at Stover Funeral Home on Saturday evening from 7-9 P.M. The family suggests in lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to Strasburg United Methodist Church, 114 W. Washington St., Strasburg, VA 22657.
