Ray F. Ritenour, Sr. Ray Franklin "Doc" Ritenour, Sr., age 90 of Fishers Hill passed away on Monday, December 29, 2014 at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital, Woodstock. A funeral service will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2015 at Emmanuel Church at Fishers Hill, 99 Church Hill Lane, Fishers Hill with Rev. Dan Locke and Rev. Robert Cypher officiating. Burial will follow in Fishers Hill Cemetery. Mr. Ritenour was born September 14, 1924 in Fishers Hill, the son of the late Charles Clarence and Emma Elizabeth Baker Ritenour. He was a member of Emmanuel Church at Fishers Hill where he had served as a consistory member, Deacon, Elder and trustee. He began his working career at Keller's Mill in Fishers Hill, then Schenck Foods Co., Winchester, American Viscose, Front Royal, Postmaster of Fishers Hill from 1949 to 1990 and owned and operated Ritenour's Grocery from 1949 to the present. Doc served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a signalman on the battleship USS Wisconsin, ship number BB-64 and was a plank owner of that ship. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Kitty Nicholas Ritenour; his children, Karen R. Axelson and husband, Darrell of Strasburg, Ray F. Ritenour, Jr. of Fishers Hill and Kristi Ann Ritenour of Fishers Hill. He was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Lucille "Bea" Bailey. Pallbearers will be Terry W. Hamrick, Carl Hamrick, Ronald G. Stickley, Gary Walker, John H. Keller and Ricky Holsinger. Honorary pallbearers will be William "Poss" Baker, William Funkhouser, Paul M. Racey, Larry W. Allamong, Jim Allamong, Lewis "Pirk" Bromley and Roland Bagnell. The family will receive friends at Emmanuel Church at Fishers Hill on Friday from 1:30 p.m. until service time. Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Church at Fishers Hill, P.O. Box 45, Fishers Hill, Virginia 22626.
