Phenie Hopewell Jenkins Russell, 95 a resident of Strasburg, VA passed away Sunday, September 19, 2021, at Lynn Care of Front Royal, VA.
A memorial service for Mrs. Russell will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 24, 2021, at Walnut Springs Christian Church with Rev. Wendell Schurtz officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. The recommendation of wearing a mask is encouraged for the service.
Phenie was born in the Oranda community on March 16, 1926, a daughter of the late Charles S. and Mary Elizabeth Hottel Spiker. She was a member of the Walnut Springs Christian Church and the wife of the late Charles Crawford Jenkins and the late John Edwin Russell. She and her husband, Charles Jenkins owned and operated the Lucky Strike Bowling Alley and the Modern Billiard Parlor in Strasburg. In addition to her parents and husbands she was preceded in death by nine siblings, Robie Wymer, Preston Spiker, Bethel Putman, Floyd Spiker, Roy Spiker, Harry Spiker, Irene Orndorff, Boyd D. Spiker, and Kenneth T. Spiker.
Survivors include her only daughter, Judy A. Hall and husband John “Red”; her grandchildren John M. Hall, III (Teresia), and Jacqueline Arbour (William) along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
