Paul "Bill" William McClanahan

Paul William “Bill” McClanahan, 75, of Strasburg, VA passed away Monday, July 24, 2023, at Winchester Medical Center.

A Celebration of Life service for Bill will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 5, 2023, at the Strasburg Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Howard officiating.  Bill will be laid to rest privately.

Bill was born in Woodstock, VA on September 27, 1947, a son of the late Paul William and Katherine May McClanahan.  He was a 1965 graduate of James Wood High School and a 1969 graduate of Virginia Tech.  Bill retired from the U.S. Coast Guard where he served as a Chief Warrant Officer.  He was a member of the Strasburg Presbyterian Church where he was a part of the First Light Praise Band and served as the treasurer of the Westminster Brotherhood.  Bill loved gardening, art, music, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the mother of his children Wilma McClanahan and a niece Andrea Dingeldine.

Survivors include his wife Patricia Henry McClanahan; his children Troy McClanahan (Lorri McQuade), Brandon McClanahan (Joanna); his stepson R.G. Bauserman II (Laura); his grandchildren Natasha, Kayla, Spencer, Lily, Tristan, Arabella, Owen, Sabrina, and Kerrigan; his siblings Kay Cook (Carl) and Mitzi Sereno (Ed).

Honorary pallbearers will be Dickie and Susan Richard and Greg Rutz.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to the Coast Guard Foundation, 394 Taugwonk Road, Stonington, CT 06378, or a charity of one’s choice.
