M. Margaret McInturff Funkhouser 95 of Strasburg, VA passed away Monday, May 16, 2022, at Life Care Center of New Market, VA.
A funeral service for Mrs. Funkhouser will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2022, at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Sonya Williams-Giersch and Rev. Stephanie Heishman Litten officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Funkhouser was born on August 20, 1926, a daughter of the late Milton Roy and Clara Lee Sine McInturff, Sr. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church where she was active with the alter guild and church choir as well as the Shenandoah American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Margaret worked for the News Stand, Commercial Press, and the Strasburg Appliance Center prior to her retirement. Margaret was known as the “Ice Cream Lady” at Strasburg Elementary School in the 1950’s. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert “Buck” Funkhouser, and a brother Milton R. McInturff, Jr.
Survivors include her son William “Bill” Funkhouser (Sue); her grandchildren Amy Rybicki (Jacob), Jeremy Funkhouser (Jackie); her great grandchildren Leila, Aly, Gwen, and Marissa; her nephews Milton F. McInturff, Jerry Lambert, Richard Lambert, and Jack Correu; her nieces Jean Foster, Betty Milwee, and Susan Nettleton; her special friend Ann Pollard along with numerous great nephews and nieces.
The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 193 W. Washington Street, Strasburg, VA 22657.
