Marcia Hamrick Obituary

Marcia Lee Comer Hamrick
January 25, 1976 – January 6, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Marcia Lee Hamrick at the age of 48, on January 6, 2025.

Marcia was born on January 25, 1976, the daughter of Glenny Maxwell Comer and the late Carolyn Lee Shields.  She grew up with a strong sense of family and community.  Marcia’s family meant the world to her, and she was a cherished daughter, wife, mother, sister, and aunt.  Marcia married Dennis Wade Hamrick, and together they created a life full of love and laughter.  She was the proud and devoted mother to her two beautiful daughters, Emmalee Grace Hamrick and Olivia Frances Hamrick.  Her love for her children knew no bounds, and she cherished every moment spent with them.  As a mother, she was nurturing, protective, and above all, deeply proud of the young women they are becoming. Marcia adored her puppies, especially Baxler, the family pet.  She took great pride in being Comet’s handler, the therapy dog at Jefferson High School   Marcia was a loving wife, devoted mother, and passionate school counselor.  She touched the lives of many with her kind heart, infectious sense of humor, and unwavering dedication to the well-being of others. A counselor by profession, Marcia, was dedicated to helping children navigate their lives with guidance and care.  Her work in the school system made a lasting impact, and she was beloved by students and colleagues alike.  She had a special gift for making people feel seen, heard, and understood.  Her humor and warmth made her a pillar in her community, and she will be remembered for her ability to make others smile, even in the most difficult moments.  Marcia’s circle was small but filled with people who were lucky enough to witness her brilliance, wit, and generosity.  She enjoyed making memories with those closest to her, and she was always ready to share a laugh.  Her love for life, her family, and her friends will never be forgotten. Marcia’s legacy of love, laughter, and caring will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.

Marcia is survived by her loving husband, Dennis Wade Hamrick; her daughters, Emmalee Grace Hamrick and Olivia Frances Hamrick; her father Glenny Maxwell Comer; her stepfather, Robert James Shields; her sisters, Diana Grace Molloy (Mike), and Angela Iola Ramey (Greg) along with many beloved nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her mother Carolyn Lee Shields.

A celebration of life gathering will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. – 2:45 p.m. at Stover Funeral Home and Crematory in Strasburg, VA followed by a procession to Fishers Hill Cemetery for a graveside service officiated by Rev. John Haynes, Jr.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to a nonprofit cancer research organization or a charity of one’s choice.  Take a moment to do something joyful in Marcia’s memory, perhaps a cup of coffee, a silly joke, or a quick run to Target for something you didn’t know you needed.
