Obituary

Linda White In the early morning hours on Tuesday, October 06, 2015, the Lord saw fit to call home a true earth angel, Linda Joyce White. Her body failed her in many ways, but one thing she would want everyone to know is that God was faithful to her during her journey here on earth. By her faith, she is now absent from the body and present with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Linda was born on December 17, 1943 a daughter of the late Blanche D. Litton. She entered school at Hamilton Elementary School in Mendota, VA, and then on to John S. Battle High School. It was in the summer of 1959 that she saw the man who caught her eye and took her heart. On December 16, 1961 in the home of Rev. Marsh Mongle, at Holston, VA, she became the loving wife of Paul Norman White. They began housekeeping in a little cottage on the Hamilton farm, and after a brief move to Newton, NC, they returned to the river valley where they have remained for over 44 years. As they gave their life to God and Paul accepted his calling to the ministry, they rescued an old country church, with saplings growing through the floor and no windows or door. They have worked diligently to restore the building and create a place of worship for the past 44 years, where they pastored the congregation of Fall Hill Apostolic Church. Linda worked alongside her husband as the church secretary, taking on many church and community projects and raising monies to provide for families in need. After her children all started school, Linda decided to continue her burden to give and serve others by continuing her education in the field of nursing. She graduated top of her class as a Certified Nurse Assistant at Virginia Highlands Community College and began working as a Home Health Aide and later as a care provider for several local elderly couples. Linda took much pride in the beautiful vegetable garden that she and Paul would raise every year. She enjoyed sitting on her front porch and watching people stop and marvel at the garden, but her favorite part was sharing their harvest with friends and neighbors. She loved canning, making jams and jellies, quilting, and was a wonderful cook. Linda was very proud of her husband and children and loved to brag about their accomplishments. In addition to her mother, she is preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, John Gilmer and Rosa Ray Daugherty White, both of whom she loved and cared for until their death, and a sister, Nancy Johnson. She leaves behind her loving and devoted husband, Rev. Paul N. White of the home, and her children: Mike White (Sheila) of Abingdon, VA, Mark White (Teresa) of Bristol, VA, Michelle White, Marty White (Sharon) all of Strasburg, VA, Marcella Roberts (Anthony) of Kingsport, TN, and Vanessa White (Jayce Adkins) of Pulaski, VA; grandchildren, Makayla Thomas, Isabella Counts, Austin Counts, Lucas White, Chris Musick, Kolby White, Nikki Honaker, Kristan Robertson and Alexia Roberts; great-grandchildren, Katie Johnson, Bryce Johnson, Chloe Johnson and Frankie Robertson: siblings, Maggie Jackson (Mike) of Meadowview, VA, Doris Gay Smith (Vernon) of Abingdon, VA, Phyllis Bumgardner (Clarence) of Abingdon, VA, Barbara Hunt (James) of Glade Spring, VA and Johnny Lester (Patty) of Abingdon, VA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A graveside service for Linda will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 9, 2015 in Forrest Hills Memory Gardens with Bro. Tim Fox officiating. The family will receive friends at Frost Funeral Home from 6-8pm Thursday evening. Frost Funeral Home in Abingdon, VA is serving the family of Linda White.
