Leonard Ludwell "Junior" Fahnestock 84 of Winchester passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Winchester Medical Center. He was born in Strasburg, Virginia in September 24, 1925 a son of the late Leonard Grant and Mabel Beulah Stickley Fahnestock. He was a U.S Army Corps Veteran having served in WWII as a Ball Turret Gunner. Before leaving for the war his mother gave him a bible and he often remarked that it was the faith of his mother that brought him through it all. He was a faithful member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Winchester, VA. He was a previous member of the Shenandoah Valley Baptist Church where he was instrumental in heading up the Bus Ministry. He was retired from USAir where he worked as a lead mechanic. He was a member and past president of the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers Union. Local 796. He was a member of the Shenandoah American Legion Post 77 of Strasburg, a member of the Veterans of Foreign War, and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of the Elks Club Lodge 622 in Annapolis, MD. He was a licensed Pilot, and was known for being a great campaigner during the Election of George W. Bush. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife of 48 years, Mildred Lambert Fahnestock; three brothers, Raymond Fahnestock, Roy Fahnestock, and Norman Fahnestock; and a sister, Geraldine Mooney; Survivors include his wife, Rosalie Creighton Fahnestock; his children, Vickie Lynn Allanson of Winchester, VA, Gail Ann Morfesis of Fayetteville, NC, and Leonard L. Fahnestock, Jr. of Vineland, Ontario, Canada; his grandchildren, Frank Allanson, Tobias Allanson, Betsy Thomas, Matthew Allanson, Mary McLean, Francesca Morfesis, Alicia Claire Morfesis, Gabriel Daniel Fahnestock, Bethany Joanna Fahnestock, and Caleb Elliott Fahnestock; great-grandchildren, Thomas, Gideon, Aaron, Gunner, Austin, and Kailyn; his brothers and sisters, Preston Fahnestock of Richmond, VA, Romaine Burnett of Scotland Neck, NC, Richard Fahnestock of Stokesdale, NC, Shirley Rusmisiel or Roanoke, VA, Ethel Estep of Woodstock, VA, and Dannie Fahnestock of Stokesdale, NC; numerous nieces and nephews A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00am Saturday, October 17, 2009 at Lighthouse Baptist Church, Winchester, VA with Pastor David K. Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Strasburg. Military honors will be conducted by Shenandoah American Legion Post #77 of Strasburg. Active pallbearers will be Frank Allanson, Tobias Allanson, Matthew Allanson, Gabriel Fahnestock, Caleb Fahnestock, and Thomas Allanson. Honorary Pallbearers will be David Sisler, Chip Franklin, Rick Metz, Terry Metz, Sam Pitcock, Rusty Combs, and Dick Connors. The family will receive friends at Stover Funeral Home from 6-8pm Friday evening. Memorials may be made to the Lighthouse Baptist Church / Bus Ministry, 2581 Northwestern Pike, Winchester, VA 22603
