Kenton Gambill

Kenton F. Gambill, 98, of Strasburg, VA passed away from this life into eternity on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at English Meadows in Stephens City, VA with his devoted daughter by his side.

Services and burial for Mr. Gambill will be conducted privately.

Mr. Gambill was born in Harrisonburg, VA, a son of the late Dr. J.R. and Alice Gambill.  He was a 1942 graduate of Harrisonburg High School where he played football.  After graduating, Kenton joined the U.S. Navy and served aboard the Destroyer USS Laws which fought in the Pacific during WWII.  He was proud to be a WWII veteran having served his country. In 1950 he graduated from Madison College with a degree in Education.  He taught typing and business courses at Strasburg High School for 30 years and retired in 1984.  Kenton married Hazel in April of 1952 and they had one daughter, Diane.  For decades he was an active member of the Strasburg Presbyterian Church.  Kenton earned his master’s degree while attending summer school at VA Tech.  Kenton served his community with the local Boy Scouts, being a Red Cross blood donor, a volunteer driver for veterans to the Martinsburg VA, member of the Rotary Club, American Legion, and the V.F.W.  He was known as having a professional demeanor, a rule follower, and enforcer.  He was a unique character who marched to a different drummer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his devoted wife Hazel Gambill, five brothers, and two sisters.

Mr. Gambill is survived by his only daughter Diane Gambill and he absolutely enjoyed his best buddy, his Maine Coon cat, Dino.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dave Roever Evangelistic Association, P.O. Box 136130, Fort Worth, TX 76136-0130,  a ministry for veterans to give hope from depression.
