Captain Kenneth Edwin Newberry Kenneth Edwin Newberry 71, passed away Monday, October 23, 2017 after a long 4 year battle with ALS. A memorial for Mr. Newberry will be held in Ohio on November 11th from 3 to 5pm at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 7822 S Broadway St, Blanchester, OH 45107. There will be a local Celebration of Life on November 18th from 4pm to 8pm at Ridge Runner, 6895 Back Rd, Maurertown, VA 22644. Friends and Family are welcomed. Kenneth is survived by his children, Geoffrey Newberry, Jennifer (Steven) Sebeck, Sierra Newberry and granddaughter Sophia Sebeck; his first wife and mother of Geoffrey and Jennifer, Joanne Adames. He is survived by 9 siblings, Charles (Norma) Newberry, Dewey Newberry, Merle (Janice) Newberry, Marlon (Freda) Newberry, Maxine (Jim) Fischer, Ronald (Juanita) Newberry, Patricia (Mike) Radwick, Virginia (Steve) Middlesworth, Nancy Thomas. His former wife, Elizabeth (DeVoe) Newberry. He is predeceased by his parents and oldest brother Lowell. Ken was born in Somerset, Kentucky on February 21, 1946 a son of the late George and Pauline (Vanhook) Newberry. Ken graduated from Pendleton High school, he went into the Army at Fort Jackson, Columbia SC 1964. He saw time in the Philippines at Clark Air Base and was last stationed at Vint Hill Farms, Warrenton, VA. He was honorably discharged from the Army Intelligence in 1970 and went to work for the National Security Agency. After leaving NSA in 1978, Kenneth full-filled his lifelong dream of becoming a pilot. He worked in the aviation field for 27years, moved from flight instructor at Cashin Aviation, to pilot at regional Precision Airlines to chief pilot for Sajen Air. In 1985, he entered commercial airline aviation with a job at Empire Airlines in upstate New York. His good fortune had Empire Airlines bought out by Piedmont Airlines. In 1989 Piedmont was absorbed by US Airways. He retired as a Captain from US Airways on July 31, 2005. During his career he flew F28, D9, 737,747,767, A319, A320, A321 and A330. As a retirement gift from his then wife, Liz, he was given an opportunity to fly a vintage P-51 Mustang, his childhood dream. During his retirement, he enjoyed raising his daughter Sierra, spent time with his adult children and grandchild and often vacationed with his siblings. He was an avid outdoorsman and belonged to several hiking clubs in Virginia; Vigorous Hikers, Wanderbirds and Washington DC Backpackers. He skied every winter in Winter Park CO. He also volunteered for the Shenandoah Democratic Party and the PATC.
