John Perry Smith age 72, a resident of Maurertown passed away peacefully Friday, November 27, 2015 at his residence. A graveside service for Mr. Smith will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, November 29, 2015 at St. Stephens Cemetery with Rev. Larry Varndell Officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by Shenandoah American Legion Post 77, Strasburg, VA. He was born in Maryland on December 5, 1942 the son of Janet Elaine Phetteplace Smith and the late Julius Hottle Smith. He was a U.S Navy Seal Veteran having served in the Vietnam War and was a retired Truck Driver. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and loved his dog Buddy. He had a passion for his Sandrail and his trains. Survivors include his loving wife of 31 years, Beulah Smith of Maurertown, VA; his children, Gary Allen Smith and wife, Carrol of Huntsville, AL, Sandra Lynn Abe and husband, Larry of Strasburg, Wesley Rutherford of Strasburg, Tammy Robinson and husband, Jeffrey "Pete" of Strasburg, Kathy Varndell and husband, Ricky of Maurertown and Perry Rutherford and wife Justina of Strasburg; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and sisters, Joan Bischoff of Strasburg and Jeanette Smith of Maryland. Pallbearers will be Larry Abe, Ricky Varndell, Cody Smith, Dylan Smith, Jamie Rutherford, and Zachary Rutherford.
