John Irvin Fox
Marine Corporal John I. Fox 68, of Strasburg, Virginia went to be with the Lord, on Wednesday, May 10th, 2017 at his home, after his battle with cancer.
A celebration of life service for Mr. Fox will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Liberty Baptist Church with Pastor Keith Warren officiating. Burial will follow in Panorama Memorial Gardens, Waterlick, VA. Military honors will be given by Shenandoah American Legion Post 77, Strasburg, VA.
He was born December 3, 1948 a son to Genevieve L. Kirby, his mother, and the late Allen Kirby of Woodstock and to his late father Elwood H. Fox and wife Tess Fox of Winchester. At the age of nine years old John began working for the local Strasburg Bakery to help support his family, he worked until his graduation in 1968 from Strasburg High School. In 1969 he married Sue, his high school sweetheart, and joined the United States Marine Corps. In 1969 John was deployed to Vietnam during the Vietnam War. After returning home from active duty, John began working for his father's construction company. John truly knew the meaning of hard work and dedication. After working many years for his father John made a career change and worked 25 years for the Shenandoah Valley Press. During his retirement he worked for Sunrise Medical Labs. John loved and enjoyed spending time in the great outdoors, hunting, fishing, and gardening.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 47 years, Susan D. Fox of Strasburg, VA; his daughter Tammy Cooper and husband, Frank of Toms Brook; his son Tony Fox and wife, Nina of Luray; his grandchildren "the light of his life" Cody Cooper, Cassie Cooper and Isabella Fox; siblings Elwood "Pete" Fox and wife, Francy Fox and their daughter Kate of Sacramento, CA, Rhonda Rau, Anita Mowery, Charlie Polhamus, Thomas Polhamus, and Jordan Litten and, his In-laws David & Linda Fultz and Tom & Jane Waters.
Pallbearers will be Tony Fox, Adam Galton, Bill Bateman, Lee Manuel, Bill Barnes and Kelly Fultz. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Pangle, John Pangle and Rick Lee.
The Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday evening May 15, 2017 at Liberty Baptist Church.
