James Joseph “Joe” Miller, age, 89, a resident of Strasburg, VA passed away Thursday, June 24, 2021at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
A celebration of life service for Mr. Miller will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 1, 2021, at Stover Memorial Chapel with Rev. Sonya Williams-Giersch officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Miller was born in Strasburg, VA on December 22, 1931, a son of the late Lester Leonard Miller, Sr. and the late Nellie Mae Legg Miller. He was a member of the Gravel Springs Lutheran Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army. After returning from the military Joe played baseball for the Valley League Baseball. Joe retired from H.L. Borden Lumber Company where he worked for 35 years. He was instrumental in forming the Strasburg Little League, was a coach with the Strasburg Babe Ruth Baseball and was one of the first Presidents of the Strasburg Ram Athletic Association. Mr. Miller was a member of the Strasburg Moose Lodge 403, Shenandoah American Legion Post 77, Strasburg, and loved the New York Yankees.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Joseph Michael “Mickey” Miller and siblings Kenneth Miller, Earl Miller, Paul Miller, Leo Miller, Charlotte Funk and Agnes Horan.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Fay Joan Conner Miller; his son Vincent J. Miller (Pat) of Zepp, VA; his grandchildren Jeremy Miller, Jesse Miller (Kristie Ellison), Lindsey Miller (Mike Doleman), Katy Cooper (Dominic), Cody Miller, and Mallory Gutierrez (Jason); his great grandchildren Kaylin Miller, Kameron Cooper, Marcus Miller, Logan Cooper, Mia Doleman, Gage Gutierrez, Ayla Doleman, Gabby Gutierrez, Harper Miller, Bryce Miller, Lucy Gutierrez, and Tyson Cooper; his siblings, Lester Miller (Betty), Donald Miller (Kitty), Larry Miller (Mary) and Betty Clem.
Memorials may be made to Gravel Springs Lutheran Church.
