James Alexander "Jim" McWhorter, Jr. 84, of Strasburg, VA passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at the Blue Ridge Hospice In-Patience Care Center, Winchester, VA. A funeral service for Mr. McWhorter will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 26, 2018 at Stover Memorial Chapel with Rev. Dan Locke officiating. A graveside service for Mr. McWhorter will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Monday, November 26, 2018 at Saint George Cemetery in Valley Lee, Maryland with Father Greg Syler officiating. Mr. McWhorter was born on April 22, 1934 a son of the late James Alexander McWhorter, Sr. and the late Myra Arminda Perkins McWhorter. Mr. McWhorter was a graduate of the Massanuttten Military Academy where he was a member of the band and Glee club. He attended University of Virginia and was a retired pilot with the Miami Executive Airport in Miami, Florida. In 1986 he moved back to his beloved Shenandoah Valley which he considered home, to help oversee the family business in Annandale. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Lynne Raley McWhorter of Strasburg, VA; his children, James A. McWhorter, III of Strasburg, VA, Deborah Rae McWhorter of Miami, FL; his son-in-law, Adalberto Duarte of Miami, FL; his grandchildren, Zachary Alexander Duarte and Jessie Marie Duarte; his brother Thomas Robert McWhorter and his family of Savannah, GA.
