Jacob W. Purvis, Sr. Jacob Willard Purvis, Sr., age 71, of Strasburg passed away Sunday, February 3, 2013 at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital, Woodstock. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Stover Funeral Home, Strasburg with Rev. William Erbach officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Strasburg with military honors by Shenandoah American Legion Post No. 77, Strasburg. Mr. Purvis was born February 16, 1941 in Woodstock, a son of the late Amos Channing and Calla Mae Stockner Purvis. He had been employed as a mechanic at Virginia Truck Center, Toms Brook; was a veteran of the United States Navy having served two tours of duty in Vietnam and was a member of Strasburg Moose Lodge No. 403, Shenandoah American Legion Post No. 77, Strasburg, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Strasburg and a life member of Arlington VFW. Surviving are his wife, Nancy Miller Purvis; his son, Jacob W. Purvis, Jr. and wife, Melody of Strasburg; a step-daughter, Michelle Pittington Garrett and husband, Jamie of Strasburg; two step-sons, Shawn Pittington and fiancée, Debbie Amenti of Reston and Derrick Pittington and wife, Misty of New Market; a sister, Freddie Kay Wilkins and husband, William of Strasburg; a brother, Amos C. Purvis and wife, Alta of Strasburg; nine grandchildren, Whitney Purvis and companion, Chad, Christopher Purvis, Brandon, Haley, Alsia and Luke Garrett, Kaileigh, Cory and Ava Pittington; and a dear friend of the family, Lisa Stowe. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, No. 4186, Strasburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and will meet at the funeral home at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday.
