Jackie Wayne Troxell, Sr, 78, of Strasburg, Virginia, passed away on February 17, 2021, at his home, surrounded by his family. Jackie was born in Strasburg on June 19, 1942 to the late James and Edna Troxell.
Jackie enlisted in the Army and served in Vietnam where he proudly served his country and was awarded the Purple Heart. Upon returning home, Jackie was co-owner of Jim and Jack’s Auto in Strasburg, and co-owner of Fox’s Pizza in Strasburg. He also dabbled in real estate and spent many hours metal detecting throughout the Shenandoah Valley.
Jackie was a very supportive member of his community. He was awarded the coveted Melvin Jones Fellow plaque from the Lions Club International Foundation for his humanitarian services and was a lifetime member of the Strasburg Chapter of Lions Club. He was also a lifetime member of the Strasburg Chapter of the American Legion and a lifetime member of the Strasburg Moose Club. Jackie held lifetime membership with the Strasburg Museum, as well as the Strasburg Christian Church. Jackie took great interest in civil war history and was a member of the Sons of the Confederacy.
Jackie enjoyed spending time with family and friends, watching his beloved Miami Dolphins on TV, and joining his “buddies” for breakfast or lunch at various restaurants in downtown Strasburg. Jackie loved antique cars, coin collecting, and civil war history.
Jackie is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Judith Ritenour Troxell, of Strasburg; two daughters, Donna Troxell-Hulver and Kelly Cameron Smith; three grandchildren, Christian Martin, Carrington Smith, and Nathan Hulver; four great grandchildren; three brothers, James Troxell, Boyd “Peanut” Troxell, Jerry Troxell; two sisters, Shirley Giles and Jeanie Reil, along with many nieces and nephews. Jackie was predeceased by his son, Jackie Troxell, Jr.; and his sisters Helen Mitchell, and Linda Drummond.
A memorial service with full military honors for Mr. Troxell will be held at Riverview Cemetery in the spring.
