Harris "Bill" Asher Obituary

Harris William “Bill” Asher, 76, of Strasburg, VA, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the Veterans Administration Hospice unit in Martinsburg, WV at the age of 76.

Mr. Asher was born June 21, 1948, in Corbin, KY, to the late Elam and Marjorie Walden Asher.  He is survived by his wife Lisa Jo Ramey Asher of 43 years.  Together, they established businesses in 1995 and 2001 in Front Royal, B & L Kustard, and South Street Grille, which he was so proud of.  He was also the owner of Licks and Splits and notably known as the “Ice Cream Man” to many children in the area.  He never met a stranger.  Bill retired from Shenandoah’s Pride Dairy after 32 years.  He was a member of the Virginia High School League, Winchester Officials Organization and West Virginia, to which he served as a high school football official for many years and enjoyed that to the fullest extent.  Motorcycle riding was a passion which he enjoyed for years.  Bill served on the Strasburg Vol. Rescue Squad for many years as an EMT.  He was a veteran of the U. S. Army from 1966-1968 having served one year in Vietnam and was a member of the Shenandoah American Legion, Post 77.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his sons William (Willie) Asher of Corbin, KY, Scott Asher of Front Royal, VA; his step-daughter Michelle Binebrink of Strasburg, VA; his grandchildren Hunter, Colt, Ariel, Zack, and Ethan Asher, Matthew Broy, Peyton and Nicholas Binebrink; his sister Barbara Sargent of Oxford, OH; his brother Albert Asher of Maurertown, VA along with a number of nieces and nephews.

A graveside service for Mr. Asher will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Riverview Cemetery with Pastor Bobby Funkhouser officiating.  Full military honors will be given by Shenandoah American Legion Post 77, Strasburg, VA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Strasburg Vol. Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 620, Strasburg, VA 22657.
