Gerald Edwin “Jerry” Mumaw 86, a resident of Strasburg, VA passed away Thursday, November 25, 2021, at his residence.
A funeral service for Mr. Mumaw will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Stover Memorial Chapel with Rev. Robert Wise officiating. Burial will follow at Panorama Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be conducted by the Shenandoah American Legion Post 77, Strasburg, VA.
Mr. Mumaw was born in Quicksburg, VA on August 22, 1935, a son of the late Charles Eugene and Dorothy Velma Smith Mumaw. Jerry worked for Avtex in Front Royal until they closed and then retired from Mountain View Rendering in Edinburg, VA. He was a life member of the Woodstock Moose and a member of the Shenandoah American Legion Post 77, Strasburg, VA. He loved to hunt and fish, was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Atlanta Braves, and Bill Elliott. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Shirley Yew, Bobbie Walker, Donald Mumaw, Jean Mumaw, Mickey Mumaw, and Helen Gallaher.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years Doris Mayhew Mumaw of Strasburg, VA, his children Michael Brookshire, Bill Brookshire both of Georgia, Rita Wood (David) of Strasburg, VA, Dianna Baker (Gregory) of Point of Rocks, MD, Kimberly Sine (Jerry) of Woodstock, VA, Dottie Bly (Timmy) of Toms Brook, VA, and Lisa King (Jeff) of Strasburg, VA; his grandchildren Chassity Ryman, Mikie Ridgeway, Amanda West, Brittany Prisaznick, Kristina Price, Kyle Baker, Sarah Decker, Rebecca Bussard, Justin King, Austin Brookshire, Shawn Brookshire, and Sissy Brookshire; his great-grandchildren Nicholas Cooper, Cayden Ryman, Brooklyn Mason, Riley Ridgeway, Raelyn Ridgeway, Blake Price, Aria Price, and Willow Bussard; one sister Freda Townsend of Broadway, VA along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be David Wood, Gregory Baker, Jerry Sine, Timmy Bly, Jeff King, and Mikie Ridgeway. Honorary pallbearers will be the grandsons.
The family will receive friends at Stover Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 6-8 P.M.
