Obituary

Edith Pauline Williams, age 87, a resident of Strasburg, VA passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2023.

A name is better than good oil, and the day of death is better than the day of birth Ecclesiastes 7:1

Ms. Williams certainly hopes that this applies to her for the most high God of all the earth; Jehovah has allowed her to have a beautiful life. (Psalm 83:18)

On Thursday, April 23, 1936, Edith Pauline Williams was born in the small town of Edgefield, South Carolina, a daughter of the late Mark Leland and Alethia Mae Mack Williams.  At age six she began her education in a one-room schoolhouse.  Her family moved to Arlington, VA, then to Washington, DC and finally to Philadelphia, PA when she was seven years old.  It was there that she finished her education.  Most importantly her grandmother, Clara Angel Mack, accepted a bible study offered by an anointed brother in the house to house work. That was around 1944-1945.   Her mom and grandmother were baptized in 1947.  At first she only attended the meetings because she had to.  Gradually she began to read the bible and of course had to sit in on mom and grandmom’s study.  Around the age of 13-14 she began to make the truth her own and in July of 1953 at the International Convention in the Yankee Stadium she symbolized her dedication to Jehovah by water baptism.  She started pioneering in September of 1969 through September 1972, and resumed in September 2003.

From the time Edith was 14 years old until her passing, she tried to build a close relationship with Jehovah, her creator, for He is worthy of our worship (Revelation 4:11).  Helping others gain knowledge of Him and His son Jesus Christ was her priority through the years.  She looked forward to being brought back to life on an earth without pain, sickness, or death (Revelation 21:3,4).  She had confidence in Jehovah’s promises for they will come true (Isaiah 55:10-11) for He cannot lie (Titus 1:2).
