Don was born in Grinnell, Iowa on August 18, 1942, the son of the late Albert Lee and Elsie Marie McCaslen Neighbors. He was preceded in death by his first wife Billie Kay Neighbors, of 35 years and the mother of his children.
Don served in the Army Corps of Engineers from 1961 to 1967. After serving he worked in various jobs with his seven-year employment as a John Deere test engineer being his favorite. Don’s career started with a paper route in his youth, driving a milk route, operating a feed and grain business, operating a tractor trailer up and down the west coast, and owning and operating a motel and restaurant. His last career endeavor was working as a Building Inspector and Plans Reviewer at the Warren County Government Center until his retirement in 2008.
Don enjoyed many interests and hobbies including restoring old trucks like his 1960 Dodge Power Wagon, collecting and operating toy trains, working on his John Deere tractors and property all year long, and spoiling his wife, Linda. He liked NASCAR racing, vintage firearms, and making his family, friends, and neighbors laugh.
Don is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Linda Neighbors; his son and daughter-in-law Bill and Rona Church of Denver, CO; his daughter and son-in-law Anita and Chris Beatty of Huntsville, AL, and his five grandchildren, Kyle Church and wife Megan, Kevin Church, Emily Beatty, Brendan Beatty, and Ryan Beatty.
