Obituary

Donald Stuart "Donnie" Grant, age 79, of Strasburg passed away Tuesday evening at the Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center, Winchester with his family by his side. A graveside service for Mr. Grant will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Riverview Cemetery with Jeff Delano officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Shenandoah American Legion Post No. 77, Strasburg. Honorary Pallbearers will be Denny Neff, Ronnie Roller, Jimmy Hisghman, Smith Cooley, Glenn Rickard, Steve Jett and Carroll Estep. Immediately following the graveside service, a Celebration of Life will be held at his beloved home, Sandy Hook Farm. Mr. Grant was born July 26th, 1931 in Strasburg, a son of the late Gypson Roy and Mary Stoneburner Grant. He was a retired farmer, member of Toms Brook United Methodist Church, Shenandoah American Legion Post #77, Strasburg, and Strasburg Young Farmers. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean War. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law Russell Gypson Grant and wife, Nancy Racey Grant. Surviving are his wife, Betty Hottel Grant; his three daughters, Laura G. Pence and husband, Richard of Charlottesville and their children, Nick and Abbi; Karen G. Derflinger and husband, Darrell of Winchester and their son, Grant; Sheila G. Erhardt and husband, Jeffrey of Vienna and their children, Emma and Grace; two sisters, Rebecca G. Craun and husband, Bill; and Nancy Boger and husband, Lionel of Front Royal The family will receive friends at Stover Funeral Home Friday evening from 7-9 P.M. Memorials may be made to the Donald S.
