Obituary

Charles Edward "Henry" Dyke 83 of Strasburg, VA passed away Monday, August 13, 2018 at Winchester Medical Center. A funeral service for Mr. Dyke will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 18, 2018 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church with Ministers Patrick and Katie Freund officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Matthew Lutheran Church Cemetery. Mr. Dyke was born in Shenandoah County, VA on September 19, 1934 a son of the late Robert Franklin and Florence Conner Dyke. He was a U. S. Army veteran having served as a medic in Germany from 1956-1958. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and worked as a Huckster for over 43 year and, as a weigh man for the Farmers Livestock Exchange in Winchester, VA for 61 years. He was an avid baseball player for the Oak Grove Baseball League, loved to travel and was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter Fayetta Marie Dyke; four brothers, Arthur Dyke, Robert "Robbie" Dyke, Jr., Warner Dyke and Lewis "Tator" Dyke; four sisters, Hilda Dyke Wilson, Yosbel Dyke Dellinger, Elizabeth Ann Dyke Nicholson and Stella Dyke. Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Joy Dunn Dyke of Strasburg, VA; a sister-in-law Fleda Dyke of Strasburg, VA along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and his two cats, Punkin and Muffie. Pallbearers will be Brad Luttrell, David Miller, Billy Minton, Linden Wakeman, Freddy Feller, Jeff Strosnider, Frankie Conner, Scott Hockman and William "Willie" Reedy Honorary Pallbearers will be Junior Kibler, Donald Hamrick, Carl Conner, Jr., Bob Spiker and the employees and directors of Farmers Livestock Exchange. The family will receive friends at St. Matthew Lutheran Church on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. The family asks that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 104, Toms Brook, VA 22660 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
