Andrew “Andy” Hamman, 84, peacefully passed away in his home in Strasburg, VA on Saturday, October 7, 2023.
Andy was born in Shenandoah County, VA, a son of the late Benjamin Edward and Anna Alberta McDonald Hamman. He was a member of Meadow Mills Church of the Brethren in Middletown, VA. Andy was a servant to God and showed compassion to all. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Andy worked as a serviceman at Miller & Anderson and retired from Spicher’s Appliance in Winchester after many years of service. Over the years, Andy enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, exploring and seeing the beauty of God’s earth in his travels by always taking the “scenic route”, fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting, butchering, riding on the Skyline Drive, reading his Bible daily, doing Sudoku puzzles, watching westerns and sports, tinkering around in his outbuilding, and cooking his family’s favorites: fried chicken, country ham, stuffing, and collard greens.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Mary (Hockman) Hamman; his daughters Judy White, Joyce Orndorff; a grandson Dale Jonathan “DJ” White; his siblings George “Buck” McDonald, Grayson Hamman Sr., Benjamin Hamman, Jill Hamman Hebb, Pansy Hamman Darr.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Jean Smith Hamman of Strasburg, VA; his daughters Janice Holsinger (Greg), Jeanette Dooley (Frank); son-in-law, Dale White; a stepson Matthew Miles (Jenna); his grandchildren: Dana White, Ricky Holsinger, Jennifer DiMarco, Sara Gimple, Christopher Dooley and Timothy Orndorff; his step grandchildren Lawson Miles and Reid Miles; thirteen great-grandchildren; his siblings Ruth Hamman Miller, Roland Hamman, and Gene Hamman.
A funeral service for Mr. Hamman will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Stover Funeral Home with Rev. Fred Mauck officiating. Burial will follow in Lebanon Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Timothy Orndorff, Christopher Dooley, Philip Gimple, Delmas Hodson, Donald Hodson, Grayson Hamman Jr.
The family will receive friends at Stover Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Blue Ridge Hospice for their care and support, which helped give both Andy and his family comfort during this difficult time.
