Obituary

Zanie Lee Donahue Wolle, age 90, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026.

Born on October 24, 1935 in the town of Man in Logan County, West Virginia, Zanie was raised by her beloved Aunt Jennie and Uncle Benjamin Queen, whose love, guidance, and unwavering support helped shape the remarkable woman she would become. She graduated from Man High School before moving to Washington, D.C., where she began building a life defined by independence, determination, and ambition. Through intelligence, perseverance, and an exceptional work ethic, she built a distinguished career in federal service, ultimately retiring from the U.S. Department of Justice after serving in senior leadership positions within the federal government. Throughout her career, Zanie earned the respect of colleagues and peers through her leadership, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to public service.

In 1955, Zanie married Jerry Dixon Donahue. Together they raised their family in Occoquan, Virginia, and shared two children, Lesa and Jerry Jr. While their paths later diverged, they remained connected through the family they created and the generations that followed.

In 1992, Zanie married William D. "Bill" Wolle, the love of her later years. They remained devoted to one another until Bill's passing in 2022. Together, they embraced retirement with enthusiasm, traveling throughout the Caribbean and along the East Coast, creating lasting memories while remaining actively involved in the lives of those they loved. Whether attending family events, celebrating milestones, or simply offering support, Zanie and Bill were a constant presence for their family.

Above all else, Zanie was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was known for hosting family holidays and gatherings, bringing loved ones together around her table and creating traditions that will be remembered for generations. Strong-willed, intelligent, relentless and opinionated, Zanie never hesitated to share her thoughts. Those who knew her understood that her determination came from a place of deep love and an unwavering desire to see her family succeed. She expected the best because she always wanted the best for those she loved.

Zanie appreciated the finer things in life and carried herself with grace and pride. Whether it was a fresh hairstyle, a perfectly done manicure, or preparing her home to welcome family and friends, she believed in putting her best foot forward. She was loving, generous, and fiercely devoted to those she cared about. Her family could always count on her support, her advice, and her presence during life's most important moments.

Zanie was preceded in death by her husband William D. Wolle; her daughter Lesa Hall; and her grandson Gregory Hall Jr., father of Ethan and Austin Hall.

She is survived by her first husband Jerry Dixon Donahue and his wife Patricia Donahue; her son Jerry Donahue Jr. and his wife Karelyn Donahue; her granddaughter Meaghan Hall and her partner Brett Wooten; her grandson Jackson Donahue; her granddaughter Ashley Morris; her great-grandsons Ethan and Austin Hall; and many extended family members and friends whose lives were enriched by her presence.

The family takes comfort in knowing that Zanie has been reunited with those she loved and missed dearly. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, determination, faith and unwavering love for her family. Her legacy lives on through the family she cherished, the values she instilled and the countless memories created around her table and throughout her life.

In lieu of a formal funeral service, the family will hold a private gathering at a later date at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Pecks Mill, West Virginia to lay Zanie and her daughter Lesa to rest alongside Aunt Jennie, whose love and guidance helped shape the course of Zanie's life from the very beginning. Though Zanie will be deeply missed, her strength, faith, and devotion to family will live on in those who knew and loved her.
