William E. Wharton William Edward Wharton, age 87, of Strasburg passed Thursday, October 8, 2015 at the home of his son, Billy. A funeral service will be conducted 3:15 p.m. Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Stover Memorial Chapel, Strasburg with Rev. David Howard officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Strasburg. Mr. Wharton was born September 16, 1928 in Rappahannock County, a son of the late William Ashby and Lilly Pearl Corbin Wharton. He was a retired painting and remodeling contractor, an avid hunter, fisherman, Strasburg Rams fan and farmer. He was married to the late Elsie Virginia Racey Wharton. Surviving are his daughter, Debbie Hershey and husband, Frank of Strasburg; three sons, William E. "Billy" Wharton, Jr. and companion, Leann Athey of Strasburg, Thomas Wharton and wife, Elaine of Xenia, Ohio and Jeffrey T. Wharton of Strasburg; seven grandchildren, James F. Hershey, Jr., Daniel W. Hershey, Jonas C. Wharton, Nancy V. Wharton, Edward C. Wharton, Robin M. Wharton and Stephanie S. Wharton; four great-grandchildren, Nathaniel W. Hershey, Morgan L. Stillson, Sara E. Hershey and Hayden N. Hersey; his sister, Virginia Coppedge of Brightwood. He was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother. Pallbearers will be James Hershey, Jr., Jonas Wharton, Bobby Funk, Mike Hamman, Larry Lambert and Todd Peer. The family will receive friends at Stover Funeral Home, 177 N.
