William King Menges (Bill) of Maurertown, VA passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2022, at the age of 90.
He was born in Greensburg, PA on Feb 18, 1932, a son of the late William C. Menges and Carrie B. (King) Menges. He lived in Wilkinsburg and Penn Hills, PA until graduating from Penn High in 1949. He lived in Buffalo, NY before entering the Navy.
Bill returned to Pennsylvania to marry Julia (Judy) Tinker upon her graduation from Columbia Hospital School of Nursing. They honeymooned on their cross-country drive to Alameda Naval Air Station near San Francisco, Ca. They have celebrated 65 ½ years together.
Upon discharge from the Navy, they returned with 3-month-old Carrie to the east coast (VA) where Bill worked for The Washington Star and later, the CIA. During these years they lived in Manassas, Falls Church, Gainesville, and Williamsburg before retiring to the Shenandoah Valley.
Bill lived his retirement to the fullest; spending time with family & friends, raising cattle, wood working, doting over his many pets while staying active in Toms Brook United Methodist Church. Bill loved traveling with Judy; together they visited all 50 states & Puerto Rico, France, England, Scotland, Ireland, and Germany.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Judy, daughter Becky Menges, son Jeff Menges (Paula), grandchildren Connor Menges and Sydney Menges. Bill was preceded in death by his eldest daughter Carrie Menges (June 2018).
A memorial service for Mr. Menges will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Building Faith Church at Mt Hebron (1944 Mt Hebron Road, Strasburg VA.) with Pastor Robert Funkhouser officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork Drive, Winchester, VA 22601.
