William Alexander Meeker died on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, in Williamsburg, VA at Patriots Colony Assisted Living.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at Shiloh United Methodist Church with Rev. Kathleen Haynes officiating.
He was born May 21, 1935, in Alliance, Ohio, the son of the late Roy Meeker and Emily Kate Alexander. He graduated from Alliance High School in 1953 where he met the love of his life and wife of 61 years, Jeanette (Jeanne) Staufeneger. They were married in 1956 in Atlanta GA. He graduated from ROTC at Georgia Tech in 1957 with a degree in Industrial Management. After graduation he became a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Begor, spending most of his time in the Pacific. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1959. He was General Manager at Ashworth Brothers in Winchester, VA from 1970 to 1990 where he met many lifelong friends, including several overseas in Japan and Europe. He and Jeanne traveled the world together on both business and pleasure trips. After retiring from Ashworth Brothers, he started a consulting company called Turning Points. He invented and patented a modular plastic belt called EasyClean, which he sold. He retired in 2004. He was an avid photographer and a member of the Shenandoah Photographic Society for many years. He was a member of the Middletown Hunt Club. He was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church since 1985. He was a Master Naturalist and loved the outdoors. He was a poet, a jokester, a true gentleman, a loving husband, and an incredible father, grandfather, and father-in-law. We will miss him tremendously. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Katherine and his wife, Jeanne.
He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Verano of Virginia and his two sons Roy Meeker of Ohio and Jim Meeker of Georgia; six grandchildren – Justin Cornwell of Georgia, Cory Meeker and Kyle Meeker of Ohio; Tiffany Turcotte, Madison Meeker and Emma Meeker of Georgia. He has four great-grandchildren and two more on the way.
