Obituary

Wayne Albert Sullivan, 97, of Strasburg, VA passed on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. Born August 11, 1928, in Wichita, KS a son of the late Thomas Marvin and Rachel Elizabeth Mosely Sullivan.

Mr. Sullivan married his college sweetheart, Barbara Davis, on October 8, 1950. Wayne served in the Korean conflict (1951-1953) as a tank commander in the U.S. Army. Following his discharge, he worked in a family-owned florist business in Canandaigua, NY before moving to Dallas, TX in 1954 to engage with Texas Instruments. While in Dallas he started an antique business. Mr. Sullivan then moved to Syracuse, NY and was employed at General Electric in data processing. While at GE he was transferred in 1963 to their Daytona Beach facility where he worked with NASA and the Apollo Mission throughout the 1960’s. In 1976, he relocated to Houston, TX, retiring from Schlumberger in 1988. Wayne moved on more time in 1988 to Vesper Hall in Strasburg, VA where he and Barbara opened Sullivan’s Country House Antiques and he joined Century 21 Braddock Reality until retiring in the 80s.

Wayne was very witty, quiet, but foremost a Christian. He enjoyed woodworking and playing the harmonica. He served as a Boy Scout leader in the 1960’s and accomplished a 50-mile Appalachian Trail hike with the Boy Scouts.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Sullivan; his daughter Joanne Hass (Jim); his seven grandchildren Brian Hass (Sondra), Beth Bateman (Ed), Justin Hass (Joy), Timothy Hass (Kori), Erin Hass (Ryan), Alan Smith, Allison Sullivan; fifteen great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law Edward Davis and sister-in-law Beverly Blakeslee along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Wayne was predeceased by a son David and his brothers Thomas and Robert.

A memorial for Mr. Sullivan is being planned for a later date to be announced.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Strasburg Vol. Rescue Squad. P.O. Box 620, Strasburg, VA 22657 in Wayne’s memory.
