Obituary

Virginia "Dixie" Alverta Steele Secrist, age 84 formerly of Richlands, VA died September 28, 2010 at her home in Star Tannery. A Funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 1, 2010 at Stover Memorial Chapel with Rev. Thomas Keithley officiating. Burial will follow at Panorama Memorial Gardens. Dixie was born on August 17, 1926 in Richlands, Virginia. She resided in Star Tannery for 38 years with her husband the late James Monroe Secrist and son James Calvin Steele. She was a loving and dedicated mother that would have walked to the ends of the earth for her children and family She leaves to mourn three sons, Ronnie Kenneth Steele, Raymond Douglas Steele and James Calvin Steele; two daughters Nancy Carol Keeler-Scott and Patricia Ann Nethercutt; two daughter-in-laws Linda Steele and Barbara Steele; two son-in-laws Danny Scott and Ronald Nethercutt. She leaves behind three step children Steve, Caroline and Sandy. She is also survived by her grandchildren Brian Keeler, Tammy Vaillancourt, Lisa Steele, Pamela Steele, Melinda LeVan and her husband Kevin and Glen MichaelVaillancourt; her great-grandchildren Lauren Keeler, Brandon Carter, Aaron Carter, Kristopher Keeler and Anna Clare LeVan. She was preceded in death by her husband James Monroe Secrist, a grand-daughter Carol Ann Carter and her children's father the late James Dewitt Steele. She also leaves behind her caregiver Kathy Holler whom she loved just like a daughter. Dixie has been called home to be with our Lord and Savior. She will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6-8pm at Stover Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Danny Scott, Brian Keeler, Mike Vaillancourt, Brandon Carter, Aaron Carter and Glen Vaillancourt. Memorials may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W.
