Van Cleve Holmes, III, 81, of Strasburg, VA passed away Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA.

Mr. Holmes was born in Ohio on October 3, 1943, to the late Van Cleve and Helen Sproul Holmes, II. Mr. Holmes served with the Maryland State police as a first lieutenant for over 30 years.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Holmes; his children; Jack Lambert, Jr., Erica Troxell (Ricci), Robyn Pruett (Chris); his four grandchildren and four great grandchildren; and a special cousin Nancy McDougle Hatch.

A funeral service for Mr. Holmes will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Stover Funeral Home in Strasburg, VA with Pastor Keith Warren officiating.  Burial will follow at Riverview cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jack Lambert, Jr., Ricci Troxell, Matthew Troxell, Chris Pruett, and Gauge Pruett.

The family suggests that expression of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions, lieu of flowers, to Shriners Children's Hospital or St. Jude's Hospital.
