Troy Lee Oakes, Sr., age 79, a resident of Reliance, VA passed away on Monday, December 17, 2018 at Winchester Medical Center.

A memorial service for Mr. Oakes will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Reliance United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard McDowell and Rev. Bill Wade officiating.

Mr. Oakes was the son of the late Wilbur Haywood and Clara McMinis Oakes. He was preceded in death by his brother Ronald Oakes. Troy served in the US Navy and eventually retired from the Federal Government. He was an avid fishermen and hunter. He was a member of the Reliance United Methodist Church for 45 years where he greatly enjoyed cooking breakfast with the men's group. He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his wife Nellie Clatterbuck Oakes whom he married on June 18, 1970; his children; Teresa Ann Oakes, Tammy Lynn Oakes, Tina Marie Scully, Troy Lee Oakes, Jr (TJ), Melody Dawn Oakes; 12 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Radomsky and Jean Witteveen and one brother Kenneth Oakes.
