Stephen C. Neff's Obituary

Stephen C. Neff, 57, of Standish ME passed away at his home on April 17 after several years of debilitating pain and suffering. Steve was born on March 7, 1955 in his beloved Shenandoah Valley in Woodstock, VA and grew up in Fishers Hill, VA. No one has ever loved where they were from like Steve. He loved to recall stories from his childhood days. Steve proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy in the Vietnam era and beyond being medically discharged in 1984 in Jacksonville, FL. He met his wife there in 1983 and moved his family in 1994 from Jacksonville to Maine where his wife grew up. Here he worked for the U.S. Postal Service for eight years until he no longer work due to medical reasons. Steve used to love to bowl, fish, play horseshoes, camp, play cribbage, dance, and ride in his truck on the old country roads. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and loved to watch his son DJ at the campground dances and other functions. He is predeceased by his father, Harry Neff [1985] and mother, Betty Shacklett Neff [2009]. He is survived by his wife, Theresa [LeBorgne] Neff, and a son Steven R. Neff [wife Kellie] of Penacook, NH, a granddaughter Caroline Miller and a grandson, Alexander Neff; also a brother, Denny Neff of Strasburg, VA [wife Pam], a sister, Donna Brooks [husband Tim] of Clarksville, TN. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Yvette LeBorgne of Gorham ME, sisters-in-law Doris Gardner or Gorham ME, Jeanne Marsters [husband Greg] of Westbrook, ME; brothers-in-law Robert LeBorgne [wife Esther] of Brunswick, ME, , Gerard LeBorgne [wife Michelle] of Derry, NH, and Albert LeBorgne [wife Joanna] of Westbrook, ME, and many nieces and nephews, aunts/uncles, cousins, and friends. Steve was also very fond of his Uncle Benny Updyke of Strasburg, VA, his cousin Terry Cook of Edenburg, VA and Leroy & Anne Henry of Strasburg, VA. The family wants to say a special Thank You to Steve's neighbors, Floyd and Jean Potts, who truly personify what it means to be good neighbors and also his very dear friends Ray and Althea Smith of Standish who treated Steve like a son and were there with just a phone call. There will be a celebration of Steve's life at a later time.
