Shirley Mae Whetzel, 87, of Strasburg, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at her residence.

Born March 14, 1939, she was the daughter of the late John Grant Foltz and Mamie May Shoemaker Foltz. Shirley dedicated her life to caring for others through her work as a Certified Nursing Assistant in the healthcare field. She was a kind and good-hearted woman who found her greatest joy in spending time with her family, especially at reunions and family dinners. She loved country music, western movies, sports cars, and shopping. Shirley will be especially remembered for making the best baked ham, using her own special glaze recipe that became a cherished family favorite. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth George Whetzel; her son, Charles “Charlie” Eugene Whetzel; her brothers, Ward Shoemaker Sr. and Delmar Shoemaker Sr.; and a special cousin, Edith Helsley, who was raised with her like a sister.

She is survived by her daughters, Doris Weatherholtz (Ronnie) and Lisa McDonald (Howard); her grandchildren, Jenna Weatherholtz (Kayla), Rhonda Weaver (JD), and Matt Weatherholtz (Sami); her great-grandchildren, Zachary Weaver, Silas Weatherholtz, Calder Weatherholtz, and Jaylyn Weaver; and her step great-grandson, Jordan Kaylor.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, April 20, 2026, at Stover Funeral Home, with Rev. John Haynes Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
