Robert Lee
Strother, Sr.
January 24, 1933 – December 2, 2024
Robert L. (Jerry) Strother Sr. peacefully passed away at his home, in Strasburg, VA. on December 2, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 24, 1933, in Shenandoah County to the late May Violet Strother. Robert lived a life full of faith, service, and community.
A proud graduate of Douglas High School in Winchester, VA. Robert was a longtime member of Macedonia Baptist church in Flint Hill, VA. His devotion to his faith was unwavering. He served as Chairman of the Deacon Board for 14 years and dedicated over 65 years to his church family. He loved the Lord deeply and cherished his time with the congregation.
Robert also served his country in the United States Army, exemplifying dedication and honor. Professionally, he spent 37 years as a mechanic with the Chesapeake and Potomac (C&P) telephone company and 14 years with the Food Lion in various capacities before retiring.
Always eager to give back, Robert served on the Strasburg Town Council and Planning Committee for eight years and as the polling Election Officer for several years, contributing to the community he loved so dearly. After stepping down, he pursued other volunteer opportunities to continue making a difference.
One of Robert's great passions was reupholstering furniture, which grew into a thriving business, Robert's Upholstery Shop. His shop was not only a place of work but a welcoming space where family and friends gathered to share stories, reminisce, and debate who caught the biggest fish (The answer remains a mystery!). The shop was a place of fellowship and laughter, embodying Robert's warm and inviting spirit.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Marion, his children Robert Jr. (Shirley), Keith (Debra) and Debora: As well as a host of In-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. His kind and gentle soul touched everyone he met, and his memory will forever be cherished.
