Robert Franklin Smith 87 of Strasburg, VA passed away Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Winchester Medical Center.

A funeral service for Mr. Smith will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at St. Paul Lutheran Church with the Reverend William H. Hall, II and Reverend Sonya Williams-Giersch officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Stephen Cemetery with full military honors by the Shenandoah American Legion Post 77, Strasburg, VA.  The family would like to invite everyone back to the Church for a fellowship meal following burial.

The family will receive friends at the Church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Bob was born in Strasburg, VA on January 17, 1935, a son of the late Frank and Christine Smith.  He retired from Amtrak/Conrail in 1996. During this time, he served as President of the UTU.  Bob was a U.S. Army veteran having served from 1958-1960 as a chauffeur for the Generals.  He was an active member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Strasburg Moose, and the American Legion Post 77, Strasburg.  In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a son Rob Smith; sisters Pat Shiley (Clayton) and Gloria Stickley (Ralph); and a brother Stewart Smith (Barbara).

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Ida Palmer Smith; his son Kevin Smith; his daughter Leslie Smith Doman (Brian) all of Strasburg, VA; his grandchildren Christian Martin (Matt), Carrington Smith, Jalen Doman (Naomi), Marissa Dove (Jesse), Kristina Smith and Alexis Doman; his great grandchildren Kennedy, Cameron, Bryleigh, Jake, Zoie, and Wrenly; and a brother David Smith (Sherand).

Mr. Smith's grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
