Obituary

Robert (Bob) Randolph Athey, Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, went to be with the Lord on November 18, 2024. He was born in Bayard, VA on June 12, 1938, son of the late Carey G. and Rebecca Athey.

Bob graduated from Warren County High School in 1956. A proud veteran having served in the United States Army as a Private First Class, earning the Rifle and Pistol Marksmanship badges. He was a dedicated member of Winchester Church of God and LifePoint Church and well-respected member of the Front Royal community, where he owned and operated Athey Insurance Services for many years.  In his younger years, Bob had a passion for music and was an accomplished musician. He played in a local band, The Country Five, during the 70s, sharing his love for country music and entertaining many in the community. Bob also had a deep love for his country, a passion for the outdoors, and a heart full of love for his family. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, and working on his vehicles. Whether spending time with his family or offering a helping hand to a friend, Bobs joy for life and dedication to those he loved was evident in all he did.  Bobs generosity, kindness, and commitment to his community left a lasting impact, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Barbara L. Athey; his children, Robert R. Athey, Jr. (Cyndi) of Sneads Ferry, NC, Michelle Athey Davis (Larry) of Front Royal, VA  and Renee D. Athey of Front Royal, VA ; his 10 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; and his sisters Loretta Bowen of Mooresville, NC and his twin sister, Roberta Greene, of Wilmington, NC.  He was preceded in death by his sisters Dorothy Nance and Helen Jenkins, brothers Jack and Virgil Athey.

A celebration of life service for Bob will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, November 24, 2024, at LifePoint Church, 1111 N. Shenandoah Avenue, Front Royal, Virginia 22630.  The family invites all who knew and loved Bob to join them in remembering his life and faith. We take comfort knowing Bob is now in the presence of his Heavenly Father, where he will forever be at peace.
