Richard Eugene "Dick" Smoot 82 a resident of Strasburg, VA passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at his residence. A memorial service for Mr. Smoot will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Stover Memorial Chapel with Rev. William H. Hall officiating. Mr. Smoot was born in Woodstock, VA on September 28, 1935 a son of the late Leonard Okes and Mary Catherine Miller Smoot. He was a graduate of Strasburg High School and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and retired from Chemstone Corporation in Strasburg where he worked as a Maintenance Supervisor. Mr. Smoot was a former member of the Strasburg Lions Club and Strasburg Moose Lodge. He was little league coach and served as a Boy Scout Leader. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two siblings, Charles Smoot and Betty Stickley. Survivors include his wife, Wilma Jane Smoot of Strasburg, VA; his children, Jane Neff and husband Eric of Fredericksburg, VA, Susan Kadel and husband Frank of Palm Springs, CA, and Scott Smoot and wife Robyn of Strasburg, VA; his grandchildren Tyler Neff, Nathan Neff, Andrew Neff, Peter Kadel, Sarah Kadel, Katie Smoot, Emily Smoot and Ricky Perry; his siblings, Leonard O. Smoot of Strasburg and Mary Linda Windle of Luray along with several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Stover Funeral Home on Saturday one hour prior to the service.
